Relocation Checklist

It is advised to prepare the priority list of the items to be kept for packing. Discard or give away the articls that you don't need anymore.

Decide if you'd like to complete any of the packing tasks at this time and let your move counselor know about it. Keep your move counselor's number handy; they're always happy to help.

Don't forget the pantry! Begin using up canned and frozen food; buy only those items that will be used before the move. Ask your move coordinator if you can donate pantry items to charity.

Notify your move counselor of any changes to your move, like additions/subtractions to your pre-move survey or if there are any extra stops required in the move.

Have some fun! Host a going-away party for you and your friends. Also, make sure to visit local landmarks that have sentimental memories for you and your family.

Create a box and keep the items that you require first at your new destination. Pack cleaning supplies, bathroom toiletries, snacks and miscellaneous tools. This way, you don't have to dig for the things you'll need right away.

Empty your refrigerator, freezer and defrost the water pan at least 24 hours in advance of your move to prevent mildew, mold and odor.

Resist the temptation to stage items like dishes, mirrors, pictures and beds. Make sure dishes are clean and beds have been stripped of sheets - the packers will take care of the rest.

Mark the items, that you are planning to take along with you personally, with a label stating, "DO NOT PACK & DO NOT LOAD".

Create a floor plan of your home and have signage up, so that, your movers can easily see where boxes need to be placed.

Take a final look around, make sure your movers grabbed everything and check that all your faucets and lights are shut off, locked and/or disconnected.

Check your household goods as they are unloaded, any damages and/or missing items should be noted on the carrier operator's copy of the inventory sheet.

Approve and sign the bill of lading which states the terms and conditions under which your goods are moved. This will act as the receipt for your shipment.
